1. Working on: A short presentation about the library’s building master plan, for President Armstrong and the deans next Wednesday. It goes without saying that this is an important story for us to tell! Working on the slide deck has also been an opportunity to develop and organize information that we can use to share the project outcomes with the library and partners, with SLAC, and with the many people who participated in our process last year.
2. Excited about: Orfalea College’s new dean Scott Dawson has generously agreed to carry on the OCOB-Library video contest partnership that will be going into its sixth year in 14-15. This program has been evolving every year; last year it took a really interesting turn. The “start up pitch” theme surfaced some very cool student ideas for innovations to support student success in the library. This year the core program team (Karen, Mark B., Patrick K. together with OCOB Associate Dean Kris McKinlay) has some great ideas to develop the innovation theme even further.
3. Thinking about: Using technology to bring ideas and people together. New ways of doing this are always happening: from the ambitions of Grover Beach Virtual Port, to various efforts to bring tech magnetism to NYC, to companies like start-up Standard Analytics, which has “created a massive database of scientific information that transforms scientific articles into standard API to make research searchable and replicable.”
Have a great Labor Day weekend.
