Happy Friday!

1.  Working on:  Officially celebrating our ACRL award…and channeling this great energy into the next big thing we do together!  Calls have gone out this week to find a date when our campus, ACRL, and ASI presidents can join us for the official celebrations. And on Monday, we’ll put out a call for volunteers to contribute your ideas or time to creating that celebration! Meanwhile, Catherine just came back from intensive training about foundation funding opportunities.  The two of us met with Eileen yesterday and we came up with the outlines of a grant & foundation funding plan of action to target some very cool next big things!

2.  Excited about:  Kennedy Library’s staff. I’ve been enjoying reading your entries in our new staff directory, and I’m excited about our new staff: the new head of Access Services to be announced very soon, and Jessica, our new director of Special Collections (visiting here Feb 4 and officially starting March 3).  And I’m thankful for Kerwin So’s steady and skilled contributions in the last 6 months, gracefully bridging the Digital Commons and Special Collections and Archives programs.

3.  Thinking about:  Reimagining the library’s exterior “shell” – how it might be extended and integrated with our public landscape.  How will the library pathways and spaces connect to the public spaces and walkways around us? I found a great book on the importance of bringing architecture, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and urban planning together around common design visions in order to create better places.  And, what do these ideas tell us about building better virtual spaces?  (Check it out in print or in our ebrary collection! http://site.ebrary.com/lib/calpoly/docDetail.action?docID=10501384)

Have a great weekend,
